Catholic Adult Instruction Class (RCIA – Right of Christian Initiation for Adults)

The process by which adults come into the Church has come to be known as “the RCIA”, which is short for “The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.”

Who is the process for?

  1. The unbaptized. The primary focus of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is on those who are not already Christian and have not been catechized.
  2. Baptized but uncatechized. Those who have been baptized either as Roman Catholics or as members of another Christian community but did not receive further catechetical formation or instruction. These typically have also not celebrated confirmation nor Eucharist.
  3. Those seeking full Catholic Communion. These are baptized, practicing Christians from other denominations who seek entry into the Catholic Church.

RCIA Opening Prayer

Thank you for bringing us together, and thank you for calling us on this faith journey.
We pray for the strength and courage to participate fully in sharing our beliefs and our need to know You. We pray for the wisdom to listen with an open and accepting mind, respecting everyone, their privacy, their gifts and talents. We pray for the trust needed to join in a loving circle so that we may experience belonging, acceptance and the unconditional love you have for us. We pray for the guidance and grace needed to build a Catholic community of believers. We pray for your peace and the faith to know, love and follow you.
This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Saints Charles Borromeo and Robert Bellarmine. Pray for us. Amen.

RCIA Closing Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, who has instructed the hearts of your faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may have a right judgment in all things and evermore rejoice in his consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Saints Charles Borromeo and Robert Bellarmine. Pray for us. Amen.
